New Database: ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political & Social Research)

Hewes Library now has access to ICPSR, the Inter-university Consortium for Political & Social Research.  ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 500,000 files of research in the social sciences. It hosts 16 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.  ICPSR is an excellent source for data sets and statistics, as well as an excellent resource for students and faculty working on collecting data for research projects.

ICPSR is available from the Databases: Find Articles section of the library's website.

Access is limited to students, faculty, and staff of Monmouth College.

On Display: Welcome back to campus!

Welcome back to campus!  After a long summer away from campus, the library would like to welcome students, faculty, and staff back as we look forward to a new school year.  In the display cases on the main floor of the library is a collection of items from the Monmouth College bookstore.  Check out the items and then be sure to stop by the bookstore to pick up your new MC gear.  Welcome back!

New York Times on Digital Microfilm

Restructuring of database vendor packages this past spring resulted in the loss of the New York Times through our usual vendor.  Hewes Library now subscribes to the New York Times - Digital Microfilm through ProQuest.  It offers the Late Edition of the newpaper and it will not provide access to the most recent six weeks.  You can find it and the historical version of the newspaper under the Databases: Find Articles section of the library's website.

Access is limited to students, faculty, and staff of Monmouth College.

New, Redesigned Library Website

One of the library's summer projects was a complete redesign of the library's website. The new Hewes Library website offers more functionality and more content.  All of the same information is there (plus some brand new stuff!), so be sure to learn your way around the new site.

We'd like to highlight the Research Process tab for students - which will walk you through all the way through developing a topic, evaluating information, and documenting your sources.  A selection of resource guides by discipline will be coming later this fall.
