Latinx Bookclub

Monmouth College students are encouraged to join the Latinx book club in conjunction with the Monmouth College Department of Modern Language, Literatures and Cultures this September, reading "In the Country We Love" by actress Diane Guerrero.


Free books are available, while supplies last, at the Hewes Library information desk (limited to members of the Monmouth College community.)

Argentine Film Wed 11/20

The final installment of the Latin American and Spanish language film showings features a film from Argentina this Wednesday 11/20!

After years of exile, twelve-year-old Juan and his family come back to Argentina under fake identities. Juan’s parents and his uncle Beto are members of the Montoneros Organization, which is fighting against the Military Junta that rules the country. Because of their political activities, they are tracked down relentlessly, and the threat of capture and even death is constant. However, Juan’s daily life is also full of warmth and humor, and he quickly integrates into his new environment. His friends at school and the girl he has a gigantic crush on, Maria, know him as Ernesto-a name he must not forget since his family’s survival is at stake. Juan accepts this and follows all of his parents’ rules until one day he is told that they need to move again immediately, and leave his friends and Maria behind without an explanation.

Latin American Film Oct. 16

Join us Wednesday, October 16th at 7pm on the lower level of Hewes Library for the Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department's LATIN AMERICAN AND SPAIN film series.

The third of the screenings is the film "The Companion".  All five movies in the series relate to mental health, and featur topics such as body image, bullying, political violence, isolation, and disease. 

Free popcorn  - and all movies have English subtitles!
