Research Tip: Scanning Materials

Need to share class notes?  Want a copy of a scientific illustration from a reference book?  Whether you need to scan images or text from books or printouts, the scanning station will do it all!

  • Scan books, photographs, or loose pages
  • Scan to format: PDF, JPG, TIFF and more
  • Save the file on a flash drive, email or upload to Google drive

The BookScan Station allows book (bound) materials to be easily and safely scanned using the flatbed scanner. A duplex page scanner allows loose page scanning from single or double sided originals.

The BookScan Station is located near the public workstation computers on the main floor of the library. If you have questions, stop by the Reference or Circulation Desks.

Simple Scan Station

Just a reminder that the easy to use BookScan Station is available for all of your scanning needs!  Whether you need to scan notes, photographs, or your research, the scanning station will allow you to scan efficiently.  


The BookScan Station will allow users to scan books or documents quickly and convert them into .PDF documents, Word Files, text files, and more.  Files can be sent directly to your email address, USB flash drive, or uploaded to your Google Docs account.


The BookScan Station is located near the Public Workstations computers and printer on the Main Floor of the library.  If you have questions, stop by the Reference or Circulation Desks.

The Hewes Library librarians can help you locate scholarly articles for your paper, statistics for your speeches, and more! Librarians are available at the following times or by appointment:
  • Monday - Thursday: 9am - noon, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, and 6pm-9pm
  • Friday: 9am - noon and 1:30pm - 4:30pm
  • Saturday: No librarians are available

New Mobile Whiteboards

Throughout the library you will notice some new additions for the school year: mobile whiteboards!


Several whiteboards will be floating around the library for student use.  Feel free to move them around to areas where you will need them.  Markers and erasers are attached to each whiteboard.

Research Tip: Learn more about your Library Accounts

Want to learn more about your Library User Accounts?  Each Monmouth College students, staff, or faculty member has two Hewes Library accounts. 

  1. Library / I-Share Account: Allows patrons to renew items currently checked out and to place requests for books through the I-Share Catalog.  You can also maintain a list of favorites in the system.
  2. ILLiad Account: Allows patrons to place interlibrary loan requests for articles and print materials that are not available in the I-Share catalog.  Electronically received interlibrary loans requests can also be retreived in a patron's ILLiad account.
Learn more abou the differences between the two accounts and how to locate your usename and passwords for each account.

New BookScan Station Now Available

Hewes Library has acquired a new BookScan Station, which includes a flatbed scanner, document scanner, and touch screen instruction monitor. 


The BookScan Station will allow users to scan booksor documents quickly and convert them into .PDF documents, Word Files, text files, and more.  Files can be sent directly to your email address, USB flash drive, or uploaded to your Google Docs account.
