Boyz N the Hood Showing 2/13

The Monmouth College Office of Intercultural Life and The Center for Civic & Social Change present a showing and discussion of director John Singleton's 1991 film "Boyz N the Hood".

Thursday, February 13th
7pm
Hewes Library, Barnes Classroom (lower level)
Everyone is invited!

Below is a bit of background on Singleton from the African American Almanac available on the Hewes Library CREDO Reference resource:

"Singleton was soon approached by Columbia Pictures to sell the film rights to Boyz n the Hood, his original screenplay and college thesis. Singleton agreed, but only if he could be the movie's director. The movie was released in July of 1991 to mixed critical reviews. Although its first showings were marred by movie-house violence, the film garnered Singleton an Academy Award nomination for best director. He became the youngest director and the first African American to be so honored."
