Streaming Film Collection

Hewes Library's subscription to the streaming film database, Academic Video Online, contains several "channels" of interest to the Monmouth College community, for educational and entertainment purposes.

Searchable by keyword (try "holocaust" or "climate change"), this collection of thousands of films includes content from BBC, PBS, Sony and independent filmmakers worldwide. Channels, such as "Black Studies in Video"  and "Filmmakers Library Online" are also browsable collections

Monmouth College faculty, staff and student need no special setup or software — just access the database from the Hewes Library website - find Academic Video Online on the "Databases A-Z" tab.

Subject Compilations of State Laws (Through April 24, 2017)
Cheryl Nyberg’s Subject Compilations of State Laws has long been recognized as the most
comprehensive source for identifying thousands of articles, books, government documents,
looseleaf services, court opinions and Internet sites that compare state laws on hundreds of
subjects. The series has been previously chosen for Best Legal Reference Books and has

Linking to Library Resources in Moodle

Faculty -

It is possible to link library subscriptions within YOUR course materials (websites, Moodle, email, and shared documents in Google Drive). Tap into hundreds of databases, thousands of journals, and a treasure chest of articles and digital resources by providing direct access to your students.

Licensed library resources use a proxy prefix on all URLs and allow Monmouth College patrons 24/7 digital access to library resources from both on and off campus. By linking to library-subscribed resources, your students are made aware of these scholarly resources and the library benefits from more accurate usage statistics.

Directions

Link to a Database (like PsycInfo):
Use the links on our Databases A-Z list to harvest direct links to databases.

• Right-mouse-click > Copy link address > Paste into your source document
• The URL you copy/paste will automatically contain the proxy prefix.

Link to an Article in a Database:

• IMPORTANT: don't just copy the URL at the top of the browser; this isn't a permanent address!
• Look instead for language like "permalink" or email the article to yourself to obtain a direct link.  
  
• If the link doesn't already include our proxy prefix, paste it onto the very beginning of the URL 
• Proxy prefix     http://libprox.monm.edu:2048/login?url=

Example:

• Article URL:   http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=32605643
• Paste the prefix directly before the article URL (see sample URL below)

• Hover your mouse over the link and make sure the corresponding hyperlink includes the proxy prefix. 
• If it doesn't, right mouse click to remove the hyperlink, and press (in Word) to re-create it correctly.

Faculty Reminder: Book Orders

Monmouth College Faculty - just a reminder that the final deadline for your Departmental Library Allocations for Fiscal Year 2014 is approaching on April 1.

Departmental Allocations:
            Dec. 1, 2012      First 40% of allocation should be encumbered
            Feb. 1, 2013     Second 40% of allocation should be encumbered
            April 1, 2013     Last 20% of allocation should be encumbered

Faculty: Don't forget your Course Reserves

Now is the time to get your Course Reserves ready!

If you are a MC faculty member and plan to place items on course reserve, remember that all of our course reserve information is available on our website along with the necessary forms.

Please allow 48 hours for processing. At times of high volume, especially at semester's beginning, processing may take longer. For this reason, we recommend that reserve forms be submitted well in advance of their anticipated date of first use.

Faculty: Get your Course Reserves Ready!

Starting August 6, we will be accepting Course Reserves for the fall semester.  All course reserve information is available on our website along with the necessary forms.

The Process

Faculty, to place an item (library book, article, media, or personal item) on course reserve, complete a Hewes Library Reserve Form, available:

• download an electronic version
• through the Start Menu on any computer connected to the Monmouth College computer network: Start -- Programs -- Library -- Hewes Library Forms -- Library Reserve Form
• at the Circulation Desk

Hewes Library materials and your personal items can be placed on reserve. The library can not place I-Share items or items owned by other libraries or community businesses (for example, Family Video) on reserve due to copyright restrictions.
