Writing Center Tutors in Hewes

Starting September 1st, the Monmouth College Writing Center peer-tutors will be available on the main floor of Hewes Library, in the room just adjacent to the east entrance.

Tutors are available for drop-in consultation and will maintain appropriate social distancing using dual monitors on each table.

Sunday - Thursday, 7-9 p.m.

Baugh Exhibition Open

Important Note: due to COVID19 restrictions, access to the gallery is available during select hours this semester: Sun 1 – 4pm, Mon noon – 4pm, Tu 9am – noon, Wed 4 – 8pm , Th noon – 4pm.

New Library Catalog!

Hewes Library, along with all CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois) institutions, transitioned to a new library catalog interface July 2020.

The catalog is accessible from the library's homepage "Search" box.

The catalog WILL permit borrowing from other I-Share institutions, however, that feature is still being tested for our location. Patrons who wish to borrow materials from other libraries should use the WorldShare interlibrary loan form on the library's homepage. (more about WorldShare)

The new interface has several "scopes" that search distinct and overlapping resources. Scopes include:  

Hewes Library Catalog	Searches all physical books, dvds and media available in Hewes Library, and some digital resources (government documents, Monmouth-owned Ebooks).  Learn more
Everything	Searches Hewes Library-owned physical items, I-Share Libraries catalogs, some Ebook collections, AND popular and scholarly journal articles (some citation-only, some full-text) from select databases.
I-Share Libraries Catalog	Searches materials owned in I-Share consortium libraries (Illinois academic libraries). Book materials are requestable via I-Share. Ebooks are not available to borrow due to publisher restrictions.  Learn more
Articles	Searches millions of popular and scholarly journal articles (some citation-only, some full-text) accessible through Hewes Library databases.
Course Reserves	Searches a subset of materials on reserve for a Monmouth College course.

Hewes Library is again open to the public as of Monday, August 17th.  Hours of operation have changed:

Monday-Thursday 7:30am - 9pm

Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

Saturday Closed

Sunday 1pm - 9pm

Art Exhibition, Connections, Open

A new exhibition titled, Connections, is now open through April 3, 2020 in the Everett Gallery of Hewes Library.

About the artist:

Guadalupe Lanning Robinson is a quilt-maker and ceramic artist from Huntsville, Alabama.

She writes:

A great fascination with different-colored clays and the textures that can be produced with stoneware has led me to experiment with and study clays for the past thirty years. Continuous respect for the material is a factor I try to maintain in my work. I also have a great reverence for the idea of “craftsmanship” and it is a strong element when creating my work. My work has developed from the respect I have for clay and the joy I experience when working with it.

                I was born and grew up in Mexico City, a place with strong cultural ties and great tradition, full of sights, energy, sounds and flavor. Bringing together my Mexican heritage with the richness and tranquility of the Deep South has enriched my life. This constantly moves my work toward blending the two cultures.

This exhibition is part of the Visions & Verse program: celebrating collaborations between Artists & Poets.  Poet, James Miller Robinson, will join Guadalupe for special presentations and class visits in April.

The exhibition's  reception will take place on April 3rd 3pm-4:30pm. All are invited.
